Appropriating reality through the prism of Edouard Glissant's creolization.

"Creolization is a crossbreeding of art, customs and languages that produces the unexpected". EDWARD GLISSANT
Interlacing poetics
This pictorial approach is mainly characterized by the combination of miscellaneous pictures. It calls for and explores an inextricable combination of visual codes and pictorial technics borrowed from very different worlds. Language codes and conventions are woven on the canvas regardless of their respected values. Thus, the canvas becomes the interlacing poetics area bearing witness to the life of a dynamic poetic dialogue between different worlds.
Each culture is based upon a system of depiction that translates its view of the world.
Ancestral civilizations have invented signs that were both social links and metaphysical expression.
For their part, western civilizations have developed and codified their representation of reality to such an extent that today artists are urged to develop virtual reality.
The graphic and symbolic interlacing of those different approaches questions the relationship with other people, the universal way of thinking and collective memory.
"I change, by exchange with the other, without losing myself or denaturing myself"
Édouard Glissant

Depth, Luxuriance and rythm
Simple motives (triangle, dot, circle, coil, arabesque etc.) pictograms, basic archetypes, logotypes, indicial picture and 3D anamorphous imaging, are the basic vocabulary used in the composition. Those items painted or stuck, are arranged on the canvas so that they create depth, volume, relief and modulating values of space and light.
The western representation of reality based upon perspective and virtual imagery, opens up the canvas onto a third dimension. That dimension of infinity is thus in resonance with a contemplative practice, related to a mechanical and obsessional repetition of the bi-dimensional motive.
